Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Interface
for the
FactoryLink Software System
The FactoryLink Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Interface (The
Interface Task) allows the user to configure bi-directional communications
between the FactoryLink Real-Time Database and devices connected to one
or more Square D PowerLogic Ethernet Gateways. Each Gateway has two communication
ports on it. Devices supporting SY/MAX protocol and Modbus protocol can
be connected to these ports. The Interface Task and the Gateway communicate
using Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) as the application protocol
over Ethernet protocols (either TCP/IP or OSI). The Interface Task uses
SISCO, Inc’s MMS-EASE protocol stack to access the Gateway via MMS.
The FactoryLink Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Interface reads
and writes data to and from the devices connected to PowerLogic Ethernet
Gateways via MMS over TCP/IP on Ethernet. Read and write operations can
occur at timed intervals, upon triggered conditions, or upon operator or
system event requests. The FactoryLink Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet
Gateway Interface controls the read and write operations of the communication
interface through information designated by the user in multiple configuration
tables. Read and write commands are issued to the Gateways using MMS’s
unnamed, symbolic variable references. The Gateway performs the protocol
conversions necessary to pass the read or write command on to the target
device (either a SY/MAX or a Modbus device).
The FactoryLink Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Interface is
responsible for the following data transactions:
Reading data from the PowerLogic equipment via single or block read
requests.
Writing data to PowerLogic equipment via single value changing or triggered
block write requests.
Announcing any error that may occur for the above two transactions.
The FFactoryLink Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Interface
provides the following configuration tables:
Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Logical Station Tables, used
to assign physical stations to logical station numbers and to associated
each with a PowerLogic Ethernet Gateway. A logical station represents a
combination of PowerLogic Ethernet Gateway, Gateway port and device network
address as well as device type and specific communcition parameters. Each
table consists of two data entry panels: Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet
Gateway Logical Station Control and Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway
Logical Station Information.
Square D PowerLogic MMS Ethernet Gateway Read/Write Tables, used to
identify the following:
FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as read and/or write
triggers
Whether or not exception writes are to occur
FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as table status
indicators
PowerLogic registers to which data is to be transferred to and from
the FactoryLink Real-Time Database
