Exide Electronics Network Binary Computer Mode (BCM) Interface

The FactoryLink Exide Electronics Network Binary Computer Mode (BCM) Interface (The Interface Task) allows the user to configure bi-directional communications between the FactoryLink Real-Time Database and one or more Exide Electronics UPS over a TCP/IP Ethernet network. By installing the Powerware ConnectUPS Adapter to the UPS serial communication port, the ConnectUPS adapter provides a gateway between the UPS and the Ethernet network. The Interface Task and the ConnectUPS Adapter communicate using the Network Binary Communication Mode (NBCM) protocol within Ethernet UDP packets. The ConnectUPS communicates to the UPS via its serial port using the standard Binary Communication Mode (BCM) protocol.

The FactoryLink Exide Electronics Network Binary Computer Mode (BCM) Interface reads from and writes data to a UPS connected to the Powerware ConnectUPS Adapter. Read and write operations can occur at timed intervals, upon triggered conditions, or upon operator or system event requests. The Interface Task controls the read and write operations of the communication interface through information designated by the user in multiple configuration tables. Read and write commands are issued to the Powerware ConnectUPS Adapter using the Network Binary Communication Mode (NBCM) protocol. The ConnectUPS performs the protocol conversions necessary to pass the read or write command on to the UPS.

The FactoryLink Exide Electronics Network Binary Computer Mode (BCM) Interface is responsible for the following data transactions:

• Reading data from the ConnectUPS via block read requests.
• Writing data or send commands to ConnectUPS via single value changing or triggered block write requests.
• Announcing any error that may occur for the above two transactions.

The FactoryLink Exide Electronics Network Binary Computer Mode (BCM) Interface provides the following configuration tables:

• Exide Electronics Network BCM Logical Station Tables

Used to assign UPS sub-modules to logical station numbers and to associated each with a Powerware ConnectUPS Adapter. A logical station represents a combination of the Powerware ConnectUPS Adapter and an UPS sub-module. Each table consists of two data entry panels: Exide Electronics Network BCM Logical Station Control and Exide Electronics Network BCM Logical Station Information.

Used to identify the following:

• FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as read and/or write triggers
• Whether or not exception writes are to occur
• FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as table status indicators
• Command types to which data is to be transferred to and from the FactoryLink Real-Time Database
