Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface

The Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task allows the user to configure bi directional data exchange between the FactoryLink Real Time Database and a VMEbus system through the Bit 3 Model 406 (ISA), Model 616 (PCI) or Model 617 (PCI) PC/AT-VME adaptor. With the Bit 3 adaptor installed within the PC/AT computer's backplane bus, the computer can functionally address the memory of the VME system as if it were local memory. Using the dual port RAM option, memory is directly assessable from both the PC/AT computer and VME system.

Data exchange between the FactoryLink and VME system(s) occur through random access memory read and write operations. The FactoryLink Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task provides the means to configure the adaptor's memory as array of various data types. The number of arrays and elements within the array are only limited by the adaptor's memory size. The interface task can support up to eight (8) Bit 3 Model 406, Model 616, Model 617 or combination of the three adaptors adaptors within the FactoryLink's computer.

The Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task reads and writes data to and from the VMEbus system(s) memory using Direct Mode addressing through the memory on the PC/AT-VME adaptor(s). Read and write operations can occur at timed intervals, upon triggered conditions, or upon operator or system event requests. The Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task controls the interface through information designated by the user in multiple configuration tables accessed from the FactoryLink Configuration Manager utility.

The FactoryLink Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task is responsible for the following data transactions:

• Reading data from VMEbus system(s) memory via single or block read requests.
• Writing data to VMEbus system(s) memory via single value changing or triggered block write requests.
• Announcing any error that may occur for the above two transactions.

The FactoryLink Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Interface Task provides the following configuration tables:

• Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Memory Tables use to specify the memory layout and initialization information about each Bit 3 adaptor. Each table consists of two data entry panels: Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Memory Control and Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Memory Information.

• Bit 3 PC/AT-VME Adaptor Read/Write Tables use to identify the following:
• FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as read and/or write triggers
• Whether or not exception writes are to occur
• FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as triggered read/write completion status indictor
• Memory elements to which data is to be transferred to and from the FactoryLink Real-Time Database
