The Giddings & Lewis™ Ethernet External Device Interface (EDI) Driver allows the user to configure bi directional communications between the FactoryLink Real Time Database and G&L controller(s). The Giddings & Lewis Ethernet EDI Driver uses a Giddings & Lewis proprietary protocol in UDP packets over a standard TCP/IP Ethernet network.
The Giddings & Lewis protocol allows access to any controller variables marked as Global in the PiCPro™ programmer. When the ladder is compiled and downloaded to the controller, PiCPro generates a data file containing information on these global variables. As part of the configuration of the Ethernet driver, the FactoryLink developer imports these files with a utility accessed from the standard FactoryLink configuration manager or developer studio. The imported global variables can then be used in read and write tables.
Read and write operations can occur at timed intervals, upon triggered conditions, or upon operator or system event requests. The Giddings & Lewis Ethernet EDI Driver controls the communication interface through information designated by the user in multiple configuration tables accessed from the FactoryLink Configuration Manager utility.
The FactoryLink Giddings & Lewis Ethernet EDI Driver is responsible for the following data transactions:
The FactoryLink Giddings & Lewis Ethernet EDI Driver provides the following configuration tables:
