Opto22 AC31 Intelligent Interface Adapter EDI Driver

The Opto 22 AC31 Intelligent Interface Adapter External Device Interface (EDI) Driver allows the user to configure bi directional serial communications between the FactoryLink Real Time Database and one or more Opto 22 AC31s with attached slave devices using the OPTOMUX ASCII bus protocol. The Opto 22 AC31 EDI Driver runs on the IBM Real Time Interface Co Processor (ARTIC) Card. Multiple device drivers may be installed on each ARTIC card to communicate with multiple networks at the same time.

The Opto 22 AC31 EDI Driver reads and writes data to and from slave devices attached to Opto 22 AC31s on the OPTOMUX bus through port(s) on the ARTIC card(s). Read and write operations can occur at timed intervals or upon operator and system event requests. The Math and Logic task is required to build the slave's command into a FactoryLink Message Tag. This command is then packaged in the OPTOMUX protocol and transmitted to the slave via the AC31. Data read from slaves attached to the AC31(s) is stored in message tags and must be decoded in the Math and Logic task. All non printable data is automatically converted to ASCII escape sequences before being transmitted and all escape sequences received from the AC31(s) are converted to binary data before being stored into the FactoryLink message tag.

The AC31 EDI Driver controls the communication interface through information designated by the user in multiple configuration tables. Data is exchanged between the ARTIC card and the AC31 slave(s) through the AC31(s) using the Opto 22's read and write ASCII string commands.

The FactoryLink Opto 22 AC31 EDI Driver is responsible for the following data transactions:

• Reading data from slaves on the AC31(s) via the AC31 commands READ ASCII STRING and/or READ NUMBER OF ASCII CHARACTERS.
• Writing data to AC31(s) slaves via the AC31 commands WRITE ASCII STRING and/or WRITE ASCII STRING AND WAIT FOR RESPONSE.
• Sending initialization/setup data to the AC31(s). Initialization commands are sent on driver startup and whenever an AC31 sends a Power Up Clear error in response to a request.
• Announcing any error that may occur for the above three transactions.

The FactoryLink Opto 22 AC31 EDI Driver offers four configuration table (CT) options:

• Opto 22 AC31 Station ID Tables used to specify communication parameters and device specific information per port.
• Opto 22 AC31 Initialization Data -- Tables to specify the commands to be sent to each AC31 on driver startup and whenever an AC31 sends a POWER UP CLEAR error.
• Opto 22 AC31 Read Tables to identify the following:
  • FactoryLink Real Time Database elements to be used as read triggers
  • AC31 commands to use to read data from the attached slave(s)
